How long should I give my pet flea and tick prevention?
This is common question and the answer is...that depends!
It depends on your pet's environmental circumstances.
Things to thinks about:
Fleas:
Q: Did I see fleas on my pet this year?
A: If the answer is yes - then you should be using a quality flea prevention for at least 6 months (given/applied every 4 wks) to break the life cycle of the fleas.
Q: Does my pet go places where other pets are? (ie: daycare, friends houses)
A: If the answer is yes, then we would recommend keeping your pet on quality flea control year round.
Q:Do other pets come to my home for visits?
a: If the answer is yes, then we would recommend keeping your pet on quality flea control year round.
Q:Does your pet stay in your home or yard and not have exposure to other pets?
A:If the answer is yes - then your flea exposure is minimal but it is a good idea to use a quality flea prevention during the Summer months.
Ticks:
Q: Do I have mature trees and shrubbery in my yard?
A: If the answer is yes, we recommend using a tick control product from (approx) Mar until we have a hard freeze.
Q: Does my pet run through long grasses or through the woods when we take walks?
A: If the answer is yes, we recommend using a tick control product from (approx) Mar until we have a hard freeze.
Q: Does my pet stay in my yard that only has a mowed lawn?
A: If the answer is yes, then your tick exposure is very minimal and tick prevention is likely not necessary.
